Menopause Test – You Don’t Have To Be In Your Mid Forties To Have One Done

Menopause can be brought upon by many things, such as, missed or irregular periods. When this happens, women begin to worry. While menopause is not deemed a disease, women still become extremely distressed when it occurs. When menopause begins, the ovaries miss the sign to release eggs.

Menopause tests can be taken to find out whether a female is beginning menopause or if there is another problem that is happening within the reproductive system such as, fibroids, cancer, or endometriosis. The menopause test is called F.S.H. which stands for Follicle Stimulating Hormone test. This type of test is a blood test. It will measure the amount of F.S.H. within your blood stream. If the test shows that the levels are above 30 to 40 MIU/mL, this usually shows that a female is beginning the stage of menopause. The ovaries are what products Estrogen. Estrogen is the hormone that assists a female to function normally.

When a female begins menopause, the estrogen hormone levels decrease and then will occasionally decrease dramatically, which can cause a lot of other symptoms to occur in females within the age of 45 to early 50′s. What occurs is that the estrogen decreases while the F.S.H. increases.

Some females will find that they will need to get checked before they reach this age in their lives to determine if they have reached the onset of menopause. There are many different reasons why this could happen. Medical reasons can bring on what is called surgical menopause. A Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, also known as, TAH, is the removal of the female’s uterus while leaving the ovaries where they are.

An Oopherectomy, also known as, a BSO, is the removal of one or both ovaries depending upon the circumstances of the female and what their physician recommends. Many females who have had one ovary removed will still be able to function and have regular periods and will not go through total menopause. It is important to understand that even if an ovary still works after this procedure that many will not have a regular period. In some instances, the menstrual cycle will stop all together.
